Advanced Centre of Urogynaecology Private Limited (ACUG), founded in 2002 by Dr. N. Rajamaheswari, the first urogynaecologist in India, offers expert and international-standard services for women’s urological, gynecological, and sexual health issues. With over two decades of excellence, ACUG remains dedicated to providing personalized care to women in need.

ACUG is a daycare service offering solutions through comprehensive female urology diagnostics such as uroflowmetry and urodynamics, along with day care procedures like cystoscopy. For advanced tests, including blood, urine, and higher imaging, the clinic partners with top-tier laboratories and radiological centers, ensuring that patients receive the highest quality diagnostic support.

For inpatient care and major surgeries that require hospitalization, Dr. N. Rajamaheswari operates as a freelancing consultant in a tertiary setup, ensuring seamless care for complex procedures under anesthesia.

About Dr. N. Rajamaheswari

Doctor N. Rajamaheswari is the first Gynaecologist to qualify in Urology in India as early as 1983. She established Urogynaecology specialty in our country. She has dedicated 42 years to the medical field, with 30 years in government service and 12 years in non-government roles. Her dual journey as a Gynaecologist and Urologist and Urogynaecologist spanned from 1985 to 2012 in the government sector, and since 2012, she continued her work as female Urologist in the non-governmental sector, bringing her expertise to patients across multiple settings.

She is the Director, Advanced Centre of Urogynaecology Private Limited (ACUG) and Head of Department of Urogynaecology (Female Urology) at Chennai Urology & Robotic Institute (CURI).

Dr. N. Rajamaheswari has held significant roles throughout her distinguished career in Tamil Nadu’s government healthcare system. Over a span of 30 years, she progressed from Tutor in O&G to Assistant Professor of Urology, and later became the Professor & HOD of Urogynaecology, a position she held for several years. For the past 10 years, she has been honored with the title of Professor Emeritus, continuing to contribute significantly to medical education, research, and mentorship.

Awards

Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute University conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award on March 7, 2025, at the A.C.S. Medical College and Hospital Campus, in celebration of International Women’s Day.

2009,“Kalpana Chawla Award” for Courage and Daring Enterprise by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Chennai for courage and confidence in high-risk surgeries saving women’s lives.

  • On November 9, 2024, Dr. N. Rajamaheswari presented a keynote address on Obsteric Anal Sphincter Injuries Prevention & Management at the conference organized by the Covai OB&GY Society at Hotel Jenneys Residency, Coimbatore.

  • On September 22, 2024, Dr. Rajamaheswari delivered the Dr. S. T. Watwe Oration on Lead & Leave a Legacy at the AMOGS Zonal Conference on Emergency Obstetrics & Pelvic Floor, organized by the Miraj Obstetric & Gynecological Society (MOGS) in Sangli, Maharashtra.

  • On March 10, 2024, she presented a keynote address on Rectocele Repair at the conference organized by the Association of Colorectal Surgeons of India at ITC Chola, Chennai.

Contribution

In the 1960s, home births often led to complications such as fistulas, resulting in urinary and fecal leakage. In 2003, Dr. NRM established an exclusive “Fistula Ward” to provide dignified treatment for fistula patients, many of whom faced social stigma and abandonment by their families.
